This truth has a few interesting aspects:

  1. It's hidden, never mentioned by pitbull owners in legislative debates.
  2. It's the "quiet part said out loud" by pitbull activists, rescuers, and owners.
  3. There seems to be a split in the pitbull activist community: most, who've never heard of this tool vs. those who insist that responsible pitbull owners carry one.
  4. The fact that it's acknowledged as necessary by pitbull experts goes against their own interests: it's strong evidence that there definitely is something uniquely dangerous about the breed.
